Questions about compare two texts
How is this different from reading them side by side?
It finds the longest run of lines the two versions share, so a single inserted line does not make everything below it look changed. Where a line has been edited rather than added or removed, it highlights the individual words that differ.
What do the options do?
“Ignore case” treats Hello and hello as the same. “Ignore spacing” collapses runs of spaces and trims the ends, so re-indenting a document does not register as a change. Both affect the comparison, not what is displayed.
Is there a size limit?
A full comparison is done up to roughly two thousand lines a side. Past that it falls back to matching lines by position, which is faster but cruder, and it says so — comparing a section at a time gives a better reading.
Is my file uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser — the file is read from your device, processed there, and never sent anywhere. You can confirm it by disconnecting from the network after the page loads; the tool still works.
Do I need an account?
No. Signing in only adds a library, so your results are still there when you come back.
